Bucaramanga, Colombia, March 2025. Santander has secured a place on the global map of specialized medicine with the inclusion of the Hospital Internacional de Colombia (HIC) and its Cardiovascular Institute, located in Floridablanca, in the ranking of the world’s best cardiology hospitals. This recognition brings pride to the region and the country while reaffirming HIC’s commitment to innovation and excellence in healthcare.
This prestigious ranking, published by Newsweek in partnership with Statista, highlights the top 300 hospitals worldwide for cardiovascular care. The selection is based on the evaluation of thousands of specialists and patients who recognize the hospital’s quality of care, medical expertise, and certifications that uphold the highest standards in healthcare services.
For Dr. Sonia Stella Ramírez Ribero, Corporate Vice President of FCV, this acknowledgment is a breath of fresh air amid challenging times for the healthcare sector. "It fills us with pride and satisfaction, but it also motivates us to continue improving our care model, patient experience, and innovation efforts. Maintaining excellence in clinical management has been key to achieving this position. Years ago, we had a clear vision of building an internationally recognized institution, and this achievement confirms that we are on the right path."
The ranking results, published after a rigorous analysis of over 2,400 hospitals across 30 countries, reaffirm HIC’s position among the world’s top 300 cardiology hospitals and further solidify Santander as a benchmark in hospital excellence.
“Earning a place in people’s minds and hearts is no easy task, but for over 30 years, we have given our patients the best of ourselves: knowledge, experience, dedication, and a deep love for life. We approach each case, no matter how complex, as a new opportunity to offer hope. Today, this recognition belongs to everyone,” said Dr. Olga Lucía Moreno Calderón, General Manager of the HIC Cardiovascular Institute.

Quality, prestige, and expertise: keys to the ranking
According to Dr. Lina Marcela Chaparro García, FCV’s Director of Strategy, the ranking published by Newsweek in collaboration with Statista is based on three fundamental criteria: the hospital’s recognition among healthcare professionals, industry leaders, and key stakeholders; the quality of care and its impact on patient recovery and quality of life; and the support of international certifications and accreditations that guarantee excellence in service.
"This ranking does not require an application, making it even more significant as it objectively reflects the trust and recognition that institutions earn within their environment. It is a distinction that validates the daily efforts of our team and reaffirms our commitment to clinical excellence, cultural transformation, and continuous improvement in the quality of life of the population, which is our ultimate purpose,” she stated.
The challenge: ranking among the top 100 hospitals in the world
Dr. Sonia highlights that, in the pursuit of excellence and with the vision of ranking among the world's top 100 hospitals by 2030, the organization has based its growth on three fundamental pillars: innovation, education, and quality. These pillars, combined with discipline, have been essential for continuous improvement, the adoption of international best practices in clinical and technological management, and the evolution towards higher-quality healthcare services.
